HEAD Tribute Album – Mom’s Basement Records presents So-cho Pistons

Happy Wednesday everyone! We’re back with yet another band announcement for the upcoming HEAD tribute. We are absolutely delighted to announce that the mighty So-Cho Pistons from Japan have contributed a killer medley to the tribute album. These guys are legendary and I can assure you that their song hits you right in the gut the second it starts. What a way to start off a tribute album. Click the link to see what Nasu had to say about HEAD and their involvement in the comp.

“My encounter with HEAD was at a small imported record store in Osaka. I found their first full album “The Monkeys” on the shelf. It’s hard to forget the impact of when I saw the cover art, of course I bought it immediately. Shortly after I got most of their records.

“We’re the HEAD ARMY!”

“This time we recorded our favorite instrumental song “Theme of HEAD” and “No Hugging No Learning” which TEENAGE BOTTLEROCKET also covered.
We’re proud to be participating in this great tribute album!”

HEAD Tribute Album – Mom’s Basement Records presents Flamingo Nosebleed

It’s Monday again! That means it’s time to announce another band from the HEAD tribute. We are very pleased to announce that our own Flamingo Nosebleed are obviously on the HEAD tribute. The boys just had a killer run over in Europe including a scorcher of a performance at Punk Rock Raduno with their label mates the Ponches and the Livermores. Check out the official write up at I Buy Records for the scoop on their song choice and general thoughts of the almighty HEAD!

Booger from Revenge of the Nerds said it best with a t-shirt “Gimme Head til I’m Dead”. Head is clever and funny lyrically, and super straight forward. They’ve influenced some of the best bands in our genre, while barely ever leaving Seattle, and barley promoting their band. They best part is they’re dead serious attitude. Super rad band and “Am I fresh” is one of the funniest tunes written! Give us Head, til we’re dead!

HEAD Tribute Album – Mom’s Basement Records presents NECK

Alright! It’s Friday and it’s time to get in another band announcement for the HEAD tribute. We’re heading back up to our neighbors in the North NECK from Ontario, Canada. I’m not sure if there is a direct connection there but the theme of the band name seems familiar? NECK kinda came out of nowhere a few years ago with an instant classic “Hate To Read” and those dudes have had my undivided attention ever since.

They just released their second full length “You Don’t Think It’s Evil” a few months ago which is also classic status. If for some dumb reason you don’t have those 2 records than you’re fucking up. Stop what you’re doing and go buy them immediately. Here is what Jeff from the almighty NECK had to say about their involvement “We first heard of HEAD when the ‘head-honcho’ John from Mom’s Basement Records tapped us asking if we wanted to be a part of a tribute album. We accepted the challenge as we had never actually heard of HEAD prior to meeting John. Many, many voice/drumming/bass and guitar lessons followed before recording Larry Tate …to which we just learned (yesterday) that he was a character from a late 60’s sitcom called ‘Bewitched’!!

That is clearly 100% true and I’m really happy that I was able to trick them into being on the tribute bc they knocked “Larry Tate” out of the park. They’re one of my favorite bands and one of the main mans favorites from this website too” Stay tuned for more announcements next week!

HEAD Tribute Album – Mom’s Basement Records presents Ratbones

Happy Wednesday everyone! It’s about time for another HEAD tribute band announcement! This time we’re heading back over the Mediterranean Sea to Genova, Italy. We’re pleased to tell you that Ratbones have joined in on the action. Ratbones is a cool punk rock band that has released a full length on Making Believe Records and 2 eps on I Buy Records (which is the best label ever) over the years.

Check out what Ludo from the band had to say about HEAD “During the 90s I listened to Street level Assault for the first thought and I thought: “ok, that’s what my band should sound like” After 25 years and having been lucky enough to share the stage with HEAD, I still have the same opinion, even if we have never succeeded to be cool as HEAD, we are really happy to be part of the tribute to one of the most influential bands of all time”.

Ratbones chose the title track of the tribute “Do You Remember Me” which is one of my personal favorites by the band and played it even faster than HEAD did which is quite the accomplishment bc the original is a quick jab to the gut that clocks in at less than a minute in length. Stay tuned for more band announcements over the upcoming weeks.

HEAD Tribute Album – Mom’s Basement Records presents Parasites

It’s a new week and it’s time for some more band announcements for the upcoming HEAD tribute. We’re very excited to have pop punk legends the Parasites on the comp. You’ve surely heard of them, Dave has been at it for over 30 years and has recorded a ton of full lengths and eps/splits and such.

The Parasites are one of my personal favorites from the (before/after) “Lookout Records” era and I am very happy to have them on the project. Dave chose to record “Spend the Night Alone” because it fits the Parasites sound perfectly and I agree! Here is what Dave had to say about HEAD “We played with HEAD once, at the 2007 Insubordination Fest in Baltimore. The power went out on the first day, so HEAD played at noon on the second day. I still remember seeing them even though I wasn’t totally awake yet. They were nice guys, and we’re happy to be part of their tribute LP”.

A legendary band covering a legendary band. What more could you want? Stay tuned for more band announcements throughout the week.

HEAD Tribute Album – Mom’s Basement Records presents TOUGH

Happy Saturday everyone! It’s time for another band announcement for the HEAD tribute. You know that we had to ask our first international band on the label to be a part of it. It’s our pleasure to announce that TOUGH from Piacenza Italy is on the tribute. TOUGH is legendary and if you’re not familiar with them then you really need to re-evaluate what you’re doing bc they are one of the best punk rock bands on the planet. Straight up punch you in the gut melodic punk rock that’s all killer and never any filler. We released their latest full length “Mess” back in 2016.

Chris had this to say about their contribution to the tribute “I chose that song because it was the first one I heard from them, and it was love at the first sight! I really love them, but I also hate them because their records play louder than the others and I always have problems when I spin HEAD Records in a club

TOUGH covered “I Made My Peace With The Hippies” for the tribute album and they knocked their contribution right out of the park just like you know they would. Stay tuned for more announcements next week and get ready for one of the best tribute albums ever.

HEAD Tribute Album – Mom’s Basement Records presents Prozacs

It’s Wednesday and that means it’s time for another band announcement for the upcoming HEAD tribute album. This time we’re gonna keep it local and talk about the Massachusetts legends “The Prozacs” They’ve been around for a long while now and have recorded tons of full lengths, Eps and splits over the years and show no signs of slowing down.

He enlisted some help from a young punk rocker in training to start off their awesome version of “Taking a Peek” They kept it true to form for their cover and that’s a great thing bc HEAD is one of the best bands ever right? Right. Here is what Jay had to say about the legends from Seattle “I first heard Head in 2005 from a CD discography given to me by Craig Lebowski (Now of The Suck) while staying in his apartment on a tour date. Fun, unabashed and raw Ramones influenced punk. I chose to do Taking A Peek, because I just think it’s a hilarious song!

You can hear the Prozacs and many more of the best punk rock bands on the upcoming HEAD tribute album which will be out towards the end of the summer!

HEAD Tribute Album – Mom’s Basement Records presents The Mugwumps

It’s a new week and it’s time for a new band announcement for the upcoming HEAD tribute album. We’re very pleased to have The Mugwumps from Austria on the tribute. The Mugwumps are one of the best bands from Europe and as you know from the tribute to the Manges that we released last year they do some killer covers.

Chris had this to say about the almighty HEAD “We love HEAD! And they are most likely our biggest influence right after the Ramones! There’s not a single HEAD song we don’t like, so we tried to choose one we thought we can play. 10 years ago we thought that tune is too slow…now we accidentally recorded it even slower. Sorry…we hope you don’t mind!”

The Mugwumps covered my (John) 2nd favorite HEAD song “Calvin and Susie” and they were the perfect band to cover it. Stay tuned for more band announcements. We’re not even half way through the bands yet and this thing is already shaping up to be one of the best tributes ever.

HEAD Tribute Album – Mom’s Basement Records presents Proton Packs

Moving right along with the HEAD tribute band announcements. We’re back with another Italian Band on the comp (half of the Mom’s Basement Records roster is from Italy so Is that a surprise at all?) we’re very pleased to announce that the Proton Packs from Siena, Italy is on the tribute comp! They are hard at work on their 4th full length Lp which will be out next year on the label.

Proton Packs chose “Gladys Kravitz” for their contribution and they had this to say about the mighty HEAD.

HEAD are an anomaly. In a pop punk world largely dominated by fake drum tracks, overdubs, studio gimmicks and autotune, they unapologetically continue to exist and play their own askew and unpolished brand of “street rock”, which is equal part garage punk and Ramonescore. Their lyrics are at times goofy and at times subtle. Their melodies are weird and unforgettable. That’s why we love them. We have no idea how they came up with this strange formula, and probably neither do they. They just do their thing and they don’t give a shit. And not giving a shit is as punk rock as punk rock gets”.

Their contribution is yet another killer on an album full of em, this makes 6 out of 24 announced. Stay tuned for another announcement in a couple days and more cool news to.

HEAD Tribute Album – Mom’s Basement Records presents Johnny Terrien And The Bad Lieutenants

The last band announcement of this week is one that we’ve been wanting to work with for a while now and we’re very stoked to have them on the comp. Johnny Terrien and the Bad Lieutenants are from Ontario, Canada and have been around for quite some time. They are HEAD fanatics just like us so they are right at home on the tribute compilation.

If you’re not familiar with them than you need to go out and check them out bc they are one of the best bands out of our neighbors in the north and are amazing. The almighty Vapids covered one of their songs so that’s saying something. The band even has a HEAD cover band called “Powerfist” so you know they belong here. They covered “Magic 8-Ball for the tribute comp and Joe from the band had this to say “It was probably the spring/summer of ’95. A bunch of records showed up in the mail that I had ordered from a label in Massachusetts called Skull Duggery. One of those records was HEAD’s Street Level Assault EP which was purchased on a hunch. Hearing Tireshredding knocked me on the floor! The whole record still blows my mind. We started our band immediately after hearing it. Still waiting to hear back from Ree Ree after sending him a demo tape all of those years ago!

Have a great weekend everyone and you can look forward to more announcements next week and a couple of other surprises.
