Fridays. 5pm. As fast as
Fantozzi (take a look not italian friends!), I leave the office looking forward to a fantastic friday night blanket + couch watching
The Hardcore Pawn on TV. While I wait for the subway, I take a look on facebook and I see a setlist of
Stinking Polecats posted by
Chris. I keep on scrolling down and I read many posts that are a mixture of blasphemies and enthusiasm. Seems there’ll be a reunion, I need to act.
A bunch of calls, texts on whatsapp and everyone confirm that it’s true : the Stinking Polecats will play! During the last months there were rumors that the guys occasionally did some rehearsals and maybe they would have done a few shows … but no one expected that the first concert was announced only a few hours before!
It was actually a real last-minute plan because the
Leeches, due to health problems, had to cancel the gig planned, so the reunion was made to save the event. Well, I guess that the event was saved very well. But let’s calm, let’s start from the beginning.
The first band to play was a new punk-rock band from Piacenza,
The Nuts, at their debut, consisting of Vale (ex-
Sockets), Palmi (ex-
Cocos/
Photogenics) and Molby (ex-
Lawyer Beaters). I am following with great interest this band since I got the chance to listen their first demo and I was very curious to see them playing live: I must say that their performance was really good. Honestly the sounds were not really good and the guys were visibly excited but how can we blame them? I have always considered the first gig for a band like the first appointment with the Valentine… The more they play, the more they will take confidence and I’m sure they will find the right quadrature of the circle also on stage. They have the potential to become a very good band, welcome to a the valid new ones.
Fast change on the stage and it is the time of the Bad Frog. I never listened to this band before and I honestly didn’t even know the existence, so lost among some talk outside the venue I have lost at least half of their concert. The other half has made me realize how much I’m stupid, I admit that I was pleasantly surprised! Super Fast Punk Rock – I could say almost hardcore – with italian lyrics ( I think some lyrics is in local dialect, incomprehensible to the Southerner who writes) genuinely ignorant and light-hearted.
They reminded me the first
Semprefreski. The guys had fun, the audience too, and I promise to myself that I’ll be more careful next time. You can listen a few songs
here.
So now is the time of the
Stinking Polecats. It is now many years since the band broke up and put aside disagreements and frictions was nice to see
Chris, Miccetta and
Davide again on the same stage. Certainly catches the eye the absence of
Simone and I’m sorry, but selfishly I don’t care: since I lived for over twenty years on the other side of the
Belpaese I never had the chance to see the
SP when they were still alive and having made part of the soundtrack of my adolescence I admit that I waited for this opportunity for so long. And I must say it was very exciting to see the
SP playing their super-hits.
There was a good attendance of the public, it definitely wasn’t full as the event deserved but being that was a last-minute event … it was still a good party. Joke after joke with Miccetta visibly tipsy to give the 1-2-3-4 to the songs, the gig ended too quickly. The songs performed were those practically those announced by Chris, although more or less in random orde. The event ended with all the audience happy and smiling.
So good to have this reunion if they bring enthusiasm and especially if they are spontaneous and fun as this. Welcome back to the Stinking Polecats but also applauses for the Bad Frog and The Nuts!
